Ali's Bachelorette Party

Well, I'm still fighting this horrible chest cold that started a week ago. I haven't felt very good, but still managed to a have a bit of fun this weekend. I really hope it goes away soon...and poor Michael, he's just getting it.

Friday night, we had dinner at Olive Garden. It had been a long time since we'd been, and it was good. Sat, I cleaned and ran some errands while Michael worked. That night, Michael went to dinner with some friends, and I had a bachelorette party to attend. Allison and Geoff are getting married in April. Geoff and Michael were roommates at college, and they live very close to us now.

We started out at Allison's house. We made our own coozies, and ate some tacos. They had rented a HUGE passenger van for all of us, which was nice to not have to worry about driving. We went to Tengo Sed Cantina at the P&L district first. It was lots of fun, we even danced on the stage! To finish off the night, we went to Johnny's in Shawnee. It was a fun, close to home bar. I think Allison had a perfect party! Can't wait for the wedding!
Sunday, Michael and I went to his family's house to celebrate Jeff's birthday. Happy 30th birthday Jeff! We had a nice dinner and visited with everyone for awhile.

San Francisco - Sunday and Monday

Sunday and Monday - Feb 22nd and 23rd

Sunday
After sleeping in, we walked to Sarah’s hotel. It was our first rainy day, a little chilly, but still better than KS weather right now. We found a cute little Italian restaurant, it was very good. Also, Sarah had made a friend the night before. He is from Rome, but lives in San Francisco. He met up with us for a while before Sarah had to leave for her flight. He has the most intriguing accent I’ve ever heard. I think all three of us fell in love with him at lunch.  After dropping Sarah back off at her hotel, Michael and I walked back to our hotel through China Town. We actually stopped and went in to a bunch of the shops. They have some very unique things…varying all prices. After warming up at the hotel, we decided to walk to Fisherman’s Wharf that evening. We walked the long way through all the piers and down to the tourist area. Most the shops were closed, but the view at night was awesome! We ate at Hard Rock Café. It was so good!

Monday
We wanted to go back to the wharf when the shops were open, so we got up and started on our way. It was raining again, but much lighter than Sunday...and it wasn’t constant. They had some great stores, including a sock store! I made sure to get a few good tall ones. We finished up our souvenir shopping and ate at Wipeout Bar and Grill. We tried shark bites…they were ok, too fishy for me! After eating, we walked back to the hotel to get our luggage together and head to the airport. Our flight was delayed; we didn’t get to KC until about 11:30pm.

We were glad to be home, although we both loved San Francisco. We are hoping to be able to go once a year…and next time it will be during their summer (Sept-Oct). I am so impressed by the people there. I was not expecting people to be so down to earth and friendly. Also, everything seems to be causal, and people just exploring the city. Everyone’s in great shape from walking all over, I think that is a thing that would be a great thing for us. No wonder why we’re so out of shape, we drive everywhere! What is very interesting and different about SF from KC is that I felt very safe the entire time, even walking around at night. People were out strolling around. I’m curious what their crime rate it; I’ll have to look it up compared to here. There’s so much more I want to explore the next time we come. Who knows, maybe we’ll end up out there some day.

San Francisco - Sat

Saturday, Feb 21st

We bid farewell to the boys that morning and they headed off for more adventures. They went and checked out Fisherman’s Wharf and Coit Tower. Jody picked us and Sarah up for brunch at her house. Jody’s dad made us delicious pancakes! Then, we started getting ready for pictures and the wedding. Sarah did a great job as usual doing our hair. Jody looked amazing! I loved her dress, she was a beautiful bride. The limo picked us up and we met everyone at the reception site, the Julia Morgan Ballroom, for pictures. It was the most gorgeous, extravagant reception I’ve ever seen! Jody has great taste. We took a bunch of pictures there, then went outside for a few more. Luckily, there was a cable car coming down the road. They stopped and we posed on it, which I can’t wait to see the outcome of those! Michael and Jonah met us at the reception site. From there, we piled in the limos for the church. The wedding was very nice. At the reception, we had a great time…lots of dancing, chatting, and drinking. They had a photo booth, which we took full advantage of! It was nice that we had already met most of Jody and Kester’s friends before…they are all extremely nice and fun! After the wedding, Jody, Kester, Sarah, Michael, and I met some of their friends at a local pub. It was fun being there in our wedding outfits! It was nice that everything was close enough to walk to!

San Francisco - Friday

Friday, Feb 20th

We slept in, which was wonderful! We checked out of our hotel, and headed to the next one. Hotel Triton is downtown in the Financial District, and just a few blocks away from the wedding reception site. It is a very trendy, funky hotel. I just love how the hotels are not boring like the ones in the Mid-West! Jackie, Jonah, Michael, and I went to lunch at a yummy pizzeria. Jackie and I wondered around doing a little shopping before Jody and Lisa picked us up from the hotel to go get manicures and pedicures. I loved all the pampering, I could get use that that! Michael and Jonah took a cable car to Alcatraz for a tour. From the salon, we hurried to Jody’s house, changed, and left for the rehearsal at the church. Michael and Jonah met up with us there. After the rehearsal for the wedding, we all headed back to Jody and Kester’s house. Their house is amazing! It’s huge and decorated brilliantly. It made me want to move in! J They had Indian food for the dinner. I was pleasantly surprised that I really liked it. The chicken was wonderful! Once the four of us got back to the hotel, we decided we weren’t quite ready to go home yet. So, we walked around and found a club in an alley. It was fun, they played good music and we danced it up!

San Francisco - Thursday

Thursday, Feb 19th

We left our house at 6am for the airport. Luckily, everything was on time and we arrived in San Francisco around noon. It helped that we gained two hours on the way out there! (not so good on our way back though) Jody picked us up from the airport and had Jackie and Jonah with her. They had arrived a couple hours earlier. She took all of us to our hotel so we could get checked in and freshen up a bit. Then, we went to a cute café for lunch. Afterward, we met up with Kester (Jody’s husband now), Lisa, Danny, and Reagan (Jody’s sister, brother in law, and their daughter). We went to Crissy Field along the bay. It was beautiful there. There’s a beach area that Reagan loved playing in and a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. We drove up to the bridge and then walked across part of it. It’s amazing how big it is!

Next, we did some sightseeing around the city. We drove past Fisherman’s Wharf, and down Lombard Street…which is America’s crookedest, and very steep street! We stopped at China town and walked through it. There are some great stores with good souvenirs for good prices. We definitely wanted to come back to do some of that later. Jody dropped us off at the hotel so we could rest up a bit before the evening events. We stayed the first night at Best Western Tomo. It was very nice…modern with some Japanese style. The staff was very friendly. I would stay there again.

At 7, we met at a trendy makeup store, Benefit Cosmetics. Jody won a pampering package from them. There were a bunch of her friends that met up with us too. We each received one free service and had our makeup done. It was lots of fun and all Jody’s friends were very friendly and fun to hang out with! Afterwards, we met up with the guys at a bar/restaurant for dinner. It was a wonderful, but long day…we were glad to get back to the hotel since it was two hours later by our clocks!
